Shine On
On Pink Floyd, and the rooms I keep returning to.
Some records entertain. A few rearrange the furniture in your head and never quite put it back.
Pink Floyd did that to me early, and the effect has never fully worn off. Their music does not simply play. It opens rooms — large, dimly lit spaces where time slows, identity thins, and the ordinary world feels suddenly provisional. I have lived with these rooms for years. I still do.
Four records in particular remain the ones I return to: The Dark Side of the Moon, Wish You Were Here, Animals, and The Wall. Each one feels less like a collection of songs than a complete atmosphere I can step into.
