Meditation is a gateway to the source.
I have been meditating since the 90’s practicing The Silva Method (originally Silva Mind Control). It has enhanced my general quality of life in every way imaginable. It’s also opened new doors for creativity.
The Silva Method
It is a self-help and meditation system developed by José Silva starting in the 1940s–1960s. It trains people to deliberately enter the alpha brainwave state (roughly 7–14 Hz—relaxed yet alert, like daydreaming or the edge of sleep) and use it for visualization, problem-solving, stress reduction, improved focus/creativity, intuition, and goal programming.
Silva claimed this state lets you access more of the mind’s potential (including higher functions and intuitive insights) while staying conscious. The method has been used by millions since the mid-1960s through courses, books (notably The Silva Mind Control Method), and modern digital/online versions. It is often described as dynamic meditation or mental training rather than passive mindfulness.
Core Ideas
Move from ordinary waking beta (active, analytical, often stressed) into alpha (and sometimes theta) on purpose.
Use a “mental screen” for vivid 3D visualization.
Program positive outcomes, solve problems, or reprogram habits while the critical/analytical mind is quieter.
Practice consistently so entering the state becomes quick and reliable.
How to Practice It Best (Basic Protocol)
Consistency and progressive training matter more than long sessions. Aim for 10–15 minutes, 1–3 times a day. Mornings (right after waking, while still close to alpha) are ideal for beginners.
1. Enter the state (countdown method)
Sit or lie comfortably in a quiet place. Close your eyes. Look slightly upward (about 20°).
Breathe deeply. Progressively count down while relaxing:
Beginners: 100 → 1 (or start with the shorter 3-2-1 method: on each exhale, mentally say/visualize “3” three times, then “2” three times, then “1” three times).
Progress over weeks: 50 → 1, then 25 → 1, then 10 → 1, then 5 → 1.
Optionally do a quick body scan (relax feet upward to scalp) to deepen.
2. Use the mental screen
Once in the relaxed state, imagine a large movie-like screen about 6 feet in front of you. Project a simple, familiar object (apple, orange) in full color, 3D, with details and texture. Practice making it vivid. Later use the screen for goals, solutions, or desired outcomes—visualize the end result as already achieved.
3. Program or work
While deep:
Repeat positive affirmations (“Every day in every way I’m getting better and better,” health/goal statements).
Visualize solving a problem or achieving a goal.
Practice constructive uses only (the method emphasizes ethical, positive application).
4. Exit cleanly
Count slowly from 1 to 5 while telling yourself: “At the count of five I will open my eyes, feeling wide awake and better than before.” Open eyes on 5. This builds control and prevents grogginess.
Best-Practice Tips for Results
Progress gradually: Spend ~10 days at each countdown length so the state becomes automatic. Once reliable, you can enter faster anytime (even sitting upright during the day).
Vivid visualization is key: The more sensory and real the mental images feel, the stronger the effect. Start simple and build skill.
Daily consistency: Short regular sessions beat occasional long ones. Many people do morning + evening.
Combine with action: Visualization works best when paired with real-world steps toward goals.
Environment: Quiet, comfortable, minimal interruptions. Set a gentle timer if needed so you don’t worry about time.
Common tools: Official Silva courses/app, guided audio tracks (many free on meditation apps), or the original books. Live or structured courses accelerate learning for some.
What to expect: Early sessions may feel like “nothing happened” (you’ve been in alpha before without noticing). Stick with it. Benefits commonly reported include deeper relaxation, better sleep, reduced stress, clearer thinking, and stronger intuition with practice.
The method is essentially structured mental training: learn to shift brain states at will, then use that state productively. Start with the basic entry + simple visualization for a couple of weeks and build from there.
